What is Parts Therapy?
Hypnosis for Inner Conflict Resolution
Parts Therapy is based on the concept that our personality is composed of a number of various parts, which are aspects of the subconscious. In other words, we all wear different hats at different times of the day/week/year (e.g., friend, parent, child, carer, sibling, colleague...). Imagine what happens when two of these parts demand opposing behaviours from us! ... an inner conflict ensues... and often at a level below our awareness. With Parts Therapy I act as a mediator to help clients resolve these inner conflicts.
Occasionally clients experience hypnotherapy in order to resolve a problem or overcome an undesired habit, only to find the changes backsliding. There can sometimes be a deeper reason why the client won't fully embrace the change they wish for. If so, then parts therapy can be the ideal technique to unlock and allow that change.
This complex hypnotic technique often works with clients after other techniques have failed. The facilitator guides the client into a state of hypnosis and then talks to that part of the subconscious that wants to prevent the client from changing...and then talks to the part motivating the client to improve his/her life. The process resembles mediation, in that the facilitator asks the right questions in order to help the parts resolve their own differences. The process is designed to empower the client!
Originally pioneered by Charles Tebbetts during the 1960's and 1970's, parts therapy has evolved throughout the years into a very effective technique when combined with hypnosis and facilitated by someone trained in the use of client centered parts therapy. Before his passing, Tebbetts asked Roy Hunter to continue his work. and he has done so, improving the technique in many ways including its scope and application.
My Training
I had the privelage of meeting Roy Hunter and being trained in Parts
Therapy by the man himself! He awarded me the CertPT (certificate in
Parts Therapy) at the conclusion of training.
Applications
I have since used Parts Therapy to help clients with a whole range of
problems most commonly including:
-alcoholism
-anger
-bulimia
-depression
-gambling
-jealousy
-OCD
-phobia
-procrastination
-smoking
-weight loss
However, inner conflicts can trigger a wide array of symptoms so this
list is by no means exhaustive. If you feel you may have such a conflict
then just call me and we can discuss this and other approaches that
would suit you best.
*Required disclaimer: Results, symptoms and treatment may vary from person to person, all individual cases are taken on merit.
How it is used
Parts Therapy is generally used alongside other hypnotherapy
treatment but can also be used as the main technique if a client's main
problem is inner conflict.
The Process
When in trance different parts are called up into a discussion.
Typically one part wishes for change while another wants the problem
to remain. I mediate the discussion until the parts have terms of agreement.
Typically this might be 'Part B agrees to stop the problem behaviour
when Part A has started doing a 'new behaviour'.
Enlightening
Most clients find this process tremendously enlightening as
it clearly reveals to them their inner natures and hence where their
behaviour has sprung from.
Treatment Length
Usually one to two sessions are sufficient to resolve the conflict
but more sessions may be required if Parts Therapy is to be the main drive
of therapy.
